Due to the number of entrants in this race meeting, the Supersports operated under a four race system, i.e. two races each day. This provided quite a challenge for the hard-working mechanics and engineers in the team, but it all came good in the end, with a P2 podium position for Steve Day, two personal bests for Chris Lay with a P8 in round one and a P6 in round four, while John Reid had a perfectly acceptable P9 and P12 during the weekend, with Chris Wright, having started sixth on the grid, clawed his way up to lead the race, but slipped back to P4, then had a racing moment, which gave him a finishing position of P10 in rounds 1 and 4, together with fastest lap in round 1 – not bad for his first season in Caterhams!
Meanwhile, Rowan Williams had a couple of unlucky incidents, but did get a creditable P6 in the first round. And outstandingly, David Briault had his best results yet, with P7 and P8 in each of his rounds. Well done to all our Supersports, and we wish Ian Hain, who was unable to compete due to illness, we all wish you a satisfactory recovery.
Stancombe Vehicle Engineering is in 2nd place in the Supersports team standings.
Supersports Championship standings: Steve Day P5, Chris Lay P12, John Reid P16, Dave Briault P18, Chris Wright P22, Rowan Williams P24, and Ian Hain P41.
In the R300 Superlights, Lee Wiggins strung together a couple of good results with some entertaining racing, on the podium again with a P3 in his first race and P5 in the second. Lee currently lies in 5th position in his championship.
Thanks for everyone who made it a great weekend – drivers, mechanics, engineers and all the supporters. Colin says despite his interference, the whole event ran extremely smoothly!
Next race is at Croft on 6th/7th September.
