Caterham Season Review

The end of the Caterham season has come around so quickly, culminating in the last race meeting at the Silverstone International Circuit.  There was some amazingly close racing which was great for the spectators and teams alike.  The SVE boys were kept busy with two gearbox changes during the weekend, on top of the usual servicing of our five cars.

The Superlight R300 races were interesting in view of the variable track condition, which made tyre choices and set up very challenging.  However, our driver Lee Wiggins came up trumps, gaining two podium places and a fastest lap, which gave him the extra point to clinch third position in the championship.  Congratulations Lee!

The Supersport drivers had both good and bad luck in varying degrees during the season, with the final positions showing Chris Wright P11, David Briault P18, John Reid P21, and Tom Miserendino from the US coming P35, but racing for the first time ever in the UK.

It’s been a great year, but not quite over yet, as some of our Caterhams are travelling over to Portugal to take part in a two driver race meeting at the famous Estoril Circuit.  A bit of fun for the end of the season, but don’t be fooled, each and every driver will be pulling out all the stops to achieve top spot.

The year’s not over yet for Stancombe Vehicle Engineering, as there is still work to be done winterising vehicles and carrying out general maintenance on the company vehicles.

On the social side of things, another event we’re looking forward to is the renowned Caterham Awards Dinner next month, which is always a blast.  Then of course we have the infamous Stancombe Vehicle Engineering Christmas Party which is always held in March at Pontland Park Hotel near Chelmsford, owned by Jason Bartella, who used to race Fiesta and Clio with SVE.  There’ll of course be a pink Christmas tree, party ammunition, pink handbag nominations and award, and Colin’s memorable speech!

We’d like to acknowledge everyone who’s been involved with the team throughout the year, including drivers, driver trainer, our wonderful engineers and technicians, and all our supporters and associates – from Colin the boss, and Maggie with her pink feather duster!

Future plans are already afoot for the team, which will no doubt cause interest and possibly surprise …….. just watch this space!!
